Joan Bigorra

Co-Founder and Chairman of DSAB


Joan Bigorra is a distinguished expert in healthcare innovation and strategy, presently serving as the Director of Strategy and Innovation at the Barcelona Institute of Global Health. He also holds key roles as a Senior Advisor of Innovation at the University of Barcelona Clínic Hospital and an Associate Professor at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). His contributions extend to being the Scientific Director of the Official Master on Leadership & Management of Science and Innovation, offered by IDEC, UPF.

With an extensive career, Joan has held significant positions, including the former Director of Innovation at the University of Barcelona Clínic Hospital and Managing Director of the Fundació Clínic for Biomedical Research. His corporate experience includes being the former General Manager of Novartis Pharma Spain. This position included being the Senior Sponsor of the EU CNS Unit, and the representative of Spain as a main country at the Novartis Pharma International Innovation Board. Joan also held the position of Project leader of the LACORE project that set up the Market Access Strategy and Structure at Novartis. Before this experience, Joan was the former Medical Director, and Head of R&D for Bayer Healthcare and Boehringer Ingelheim with direct involvement in all major Clinical Development Projects.

Furthering his expertise, he has pursued studies in Health Economics, General Management, Marketing, and Finance. Joan also possesses legal qualifications and mastery in Biomedicine, Biotechnology, and Law of the European Union. As a dedicated contributor to healthcare innovation, Joan has served on notable committees and boards, evaluating Health Innovation calls such as MIT Innovators under 35 Europe and EIT-Health. Jaon’s dynamic contributions continue to drive healthcare advancements, benefiting both the industry and our organization.
